 Kia ora! Welcome back to my blog. This blog will be showing my explanation text about how to be sustainable. 

How to be sustainable. 
Sustainability. It is the idea that us humans will save the goodness of our planet in friendly ways for
future generations.Everyone can be sustainable. You can do this in many

ways, such as being all electric, reducing plastic usage
and growing your own food.
Being all Electric
Being all electric isn’t easy. It means having an
electric car, solar paneled house and an electric
fireplace. The reason why it is so important to have
an electric car is because petrol cars release
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and cause
global warming to be a bigger problem. Electric cars
are easy to charge, use no petrol (which means your
saving heaps), and are better for the environment.
Solar panels are better too, because they use sunlight
instead of turbines. Electric fireplaces are also
better than gas powered ones, because gas is a fossil
fuel; bad for the environment.
Reducing plastic usage
It is important to reduce your plastic usage because
plastic will always go into the bin, or the ocean which
is even worse. The plastic will get eaten by sea creatures,
which means no fish for dinner. Ways you can decrease
plastic usage is by wrapping our food in beeswax wraps.
These are reusable, and environmentally friendly
wrapping material, also super easy to make. Maybe if
you buy a bag of cookies with plastic wrap, instead you
could bake the cookies yourself.
Growing your own food.
It is better to grow your own food, because when you
buy it, it usually comes in plastic wrapping or has to
get shipped from overseas. You know why the plastic is
bad, but why the shipping? When shipping food across
seas, it requires a lot of fossil fuels to power the ship,
and sometimes,  you have to burn them. Burning fossil
fuels is bad, because it sends dirty air into our lungs,
and up into the atmosphere, which like I said earlier,
is bad.

Conclusion
In conclusion, our world is in danger. There are many
worldwide problems. These are only a few of the ways
we can help our world, but if we want our world to be
healthy, we need to take action, NOW. 
Glossary:
Turbine - A metal piece that spins around to make
electricity
Fossil fuels - A type of energy producer such as coal,
oil and natural gas.
Atmosphere - The layer or layers of gases around
a planet.

I baked something without knowing what it was...

Kia ora! Welcome to my blog. This blog is about my reading, writing and maths from week 7. First I will share my reading.

In reading, we were learning about what is ok to skim and scan and what you have to read properly. We were given some intructuions to follow without knowing what we were making. I chose the baking one and here are the instructions we had to follow:

Next, my writing. Our writing this week was linked to our reading, about instructions. But instead, we were writing them this time. We had to choose something to write instuctions for how to do, and make them clear to read. I chose how to tie a shoelace.

And last, maths. This week we were learning about the four types of transformation. We had to create a logo that showed at least two. They are, reflection,rotation,translation,enlargment. Here is my logo for sunglasses.

I used all four of them. I used enlargment  for the one in the middle, translation when moving them around in an oval, rotation when rotating them different ways and I tried to make it the same on both sides. That is all for this blog today, thanks for reading!

Kia ora, and welcome back to my blog. This blog is about the ten poems I wrote for our create week 6. We were learning about poem writing, and learnt about 4 different poem types. This included, Rhyming, Shape poem, Haiku and riddle. I chose a haiku, 10 actuually. The structure of a haiku is, 

First line: 5 syllables

Second line: 7 syllables

Third line: 5 syllables.

I wrote ten of these, not all of them were my best work because it was hard to think of the words but some of them I loved. Here they are:

Students should be PAID for what they do at school.

 Kia ora, welcome back to my blog. In this blog I will be sharing all about why I think students should be paid for certain things at school. This week we were tasked to write a persuasive text about any topic from the following:

I chose Students should be paid to go to school, but that seemed a little unreasonable to me so I changed it up to make it certain things. Here is my text:

Why students should get paid for certain things at school

I strongly believe that students should be paid to do certain things at school. It is important that students will be acknowledged in their classroom for what they do at school, but is acknowledgement enough? Some children would like more than acknowledgement, like an award or badge. I will share with you my opinion on why students should be paid money.

Firstly, some of the activities the students do is something an adult might get paid for. For example, a band. Adults get paid to perform on stage with their musical instruments, so why not children? We can rock it like adults can’t we?! While our music choice might not be the same, our skills and perfection may be the same. So I just don’t understand why we don’t get paid? And things like Kapa Haka, people have to pay to get in so they can watch, but their money doesn’t go to the people they pay to watch! We will put in just as much effort and time to do this as an adult, but still no pay!

Secondly, the money doesn’t have to be much! It would be just a small amount to give us appreciation for what we have done. And maybe a certificate to make the appreciation last. We could then save up the money all together and do something for the whole school or club, to help make it be more known to others. And maybe the school could save up for another event like a performance for another club or a party for the people who performed.

Lastly, the students who aren’t in the clubs will then want to join, because they know they will get paid. Wouldn’t it be great if every child was in a club? People would be making new friends, experiencing new talents and having a great time. Although it may cost a bit more money for the school or the organisation, it is all about the children, right?

To sum up my opinion, I am sure that students should be paid for some of the things that they do, my first reason because then it is fair that the people who are hard working get rewarded, and also because it could all add up to students making new friends, discovering new talents and having lots of fun.

The oil spill, Turangawaewae and Otago problem solving

 Kia ora whanau! Kei te pehea koutou? 

This week in the kaupeka hub we have been doing some very fun learning. In maths, I was chosen for a problem solving competition. We answered five questions on a test, and I can't wait to get back my results. One of the questions that I found hard was this, 

You have to figure out what the letters mean on this question. Remember, A is one letter the whole time. Same with B and C. Try figure it out and answer it in the comments.

Okay, next is my Writing. This week we were writing poems about our turangawaewae and we had to do something called show don't tell when you have to show them about your place but you write it down. It was quite hard to do but here is mine.

In the distance, you see only sky,   

Waves are crashing right before your eye,  

With the bright warm sun, way up high.

You dive in the water, it makes you freeze,

You notice the water is like a cool breeze,

Then you dive again, the sand scraping your knees.

It’s time to go home, you’ve had a lovely lucky day,

You want some ice cream, so you go and pay,

And then it's time to go to bed and pray,

That tomorrow will be just like today.

 Kia ora! Welcome back! This blog is about Week 9 Term 1. First is my Reading. This week for reading we were creating landmarks for NZ. We read some texts to insprie us, I read about The chch museum and The Eiffel tower. So I thought of an idea to make a museum tower. This is my work:

Now, Writing. This week for writing we were doing poems. We had to write it about chch and ngai tahu together in a poem. Here is my poem:

A tale of Ōtautahi where there lies stories of toil and mahi. Over 800 years ago, Ngai Tahu came to NZ. They rode the ocean navigating with the stars, as they voyaged on waka. Ngai Tahu meaning, the people of Tahu, linking to their ancestor, Tahu Potiki.By the 1830’s, Ngāi Tahu had built a thriving industry supplying whaling vessels and had become the backbone of the South Island economy.

A tale of Ōtautahi where there lies stories of toil and mahi. Time passed, and more happened, the treaty,  te tiriti o waitangi. Then the pakeha. And more. More people from other countries started living here. Then, now. Now we have sheep as our thing, and we are very good at sport. But we are also very unlucky too. The earthquakes and mosque attacks. Unlucky.

A tale of Ōtautahi where there lies stories of toil and mahi. Now as a nation, we move forward with each other. It is like, Jacinda Ardern drives the car and everybody else is in the back seat. The car is New Zealand. Schooling and Education is a lot better than what it used to be, same with clothes and food. A tale of Ōtautahi where there lies stories of toil and mahi.

And now, Maths. This week for maths we were doing transformation. We had to use this shape and show it for all types of transfrormation: Reflection, Rotation, Translation, and Enlargment:"

Then we had to create our own kowhaiwhai pattern. A kowhaiwhai pattern is when a maori design is repeated into a pattern, like mine!

Walking through New Zealand

 Kia ora koutou! This blog is about my reading, writing and maths. Last week, I told you the name of my new place for chch, The Walk Through NZ. I finally finished it with my friend Izzy, and I think it looks really cool. I put a lot of work into it so I hope you like it!

Now maths. This week for maths we were doing a statictical investigation. A statictical investigation is when you collect data (information) and put it into a graph to show the data. My data is about Te Reo Speakers In NZ By Age. Here is the slide I made:

Kaupeka news

 Kia ora koutou! Welcome back to my blog. This week I will be sharing about, Writing, Reading and Health and P.E. But first, the one that links to the title, WRITING!

This week for writing, we were tasked to come up with an idea for Kaupeka news. Kaupeka news is a newspaper including all the schools clubs and events that happen throughout the year. I had to come up with and idea about what my article would be about. So, I chose Young Vinnies. Next week I will write the article for the newspaper about how Young Vinnies is showing service to the school by fundrasing and helping others. Please read my article when it comes out!

Now Reading. For reading this week the teachers assigned us to read two articles from the Kaupeka hub site and make notes about what we learned from each text. Then with the information we collected, next week we will create a place we think chch needs. The following words is the name of the place I am making. A long long time ago...

 Kia ora and Welcome back to my blog! This blog is the first one I have done this year because we are just getting into blogging. This blog is about last week's writing. We have been learning about the treay of Waitangi and important people from those times. We were tasked to create a postcard from somebody in the past, to somebody else in the past. 

I chose Henry Williams because I think he had a very important job with the treaty, translating it. The treaty was first written in English, then Henry William and his son, Edward translated it to Maori. I made my postcard to the Queen, who in that time was Queen Victoria. I even designed the stamp myself.

Creepy castle

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog! This week on Monday, Mrs Earl our amazing Principal came into the class and taught about Shade o meteres, Vocabulary Vaults, Averbial phrases, repetitions and rhetorical questions. Although I wasn't at school that day, I had some great friends to tell me EVERYTHING!

Shade o meter:
A shade o meter is a way of finding out better ways to write boring words. You put the not-so-good word in the middle, and think of new ways to say it. The worse words go underneath and the better ones go above. Here is an example of a shade o meter.

Vocabulary Vault:
A Vocabulary Vault is a thing that is sort of like a shade o meter, it changes not interesting words into interesting words. Here is an example of a Vocabulary Vault:

Adverbial Phrases, repetitions and rhetorical questions:
An adverbial phrase it telling what time of the day it is. For example: As the sun sets. Or: When the dawn awakens.

A reputition is when you repeat the same thing in a different way. You don't say the same thing, you say it again but in another way. For example: The wind is cold. The wind is freezing. The wind is turning people into ice., See how they don't say the same thing but they sort of do?

Rhetorical questions are when you ask a question that you don't mean to be answered. They say something like: "When will this rain stop!?", because no one will answer,  "At 2:00", will they? so you don't really want them to answer a rhetorical question.

Once we had learnt about all that, we had to create a 9 sentence story about one of these two pictures:

I chose the one on the right. My story is a short paragraph that I hope to add more onto soon, but for now this is my story:


As the Moon shone brightly the girl walked up the castle. She was as scared as a cat. She walked closer getting goosebumps as she walked. Opening the door of the haunted abandoned castle, she walked inside, and said, “Hello? Anyone home?” The girl turned on her torch and shone it everywhere. She was standing in the middle of a haunted freezer. At least, it was like that. But then she heard a growl. It sounded like it was right next to her so she ran up the creaky stairs.She was scared. She was worried. She was terrified.     Will she survive?

Etiquette Emails

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog! This week we have been learning how to write a good email, or, etiquette email. We learnt with an example of a perfect email, and posters, articles and videos of how to write a good email. Then when we were with full knowledge of email writing, we created once again something to share our learning. This is the slideshow I created.

How to write a....

Kia ora and welcome back to my blog! Today I am going to share with you how to write a quality blog post.

First, you need to write the title. The title needs to be catchy to hook the reader in. For example, 'I opened the door and saw something I could not explain, a...'

Next is the introduction. You explain your topic to the reader. For example, 'Hello! Today I am going to tell you about my Saturday soccer match.'

Then, you write the paragraphs you need to tell your story. You can choose how many you do, you might only need one if you have a picture.

After that, you add in the conclusion, it will conclude your blog with a breif summary of your topic. For example, 'Paris is a beautiful city, with so many things to see and do.' That is a conclusion.

Lastly, you end your blog with a question, like, 'Have you ever played soccer?',or, 'What is your favourite sport?' The question is to encourage comments.

For my conclusion, the five things you need for a good blog is, title, introduction, paragraphs, conclusion and question.
