Float your boat record makers!

For our PBL, one of our challenges was to create a boat out of tin foil, straws, tape, and plastic cups. We had 20 minutes and one group of four. My group name was The Champions. Our boat was as simple as, one upside down plastic cup in the middle of four up the right way cups. The challenge after you, make your boat was to put it in a container of water and see if it floats. If it did, you would start putting marbles into it one by one, counting each one of them.We had to try and set a record of the amount of marbles. At first, the record was made of 64, then got beaten to 91, then was beaten to 121, then was beaten by my group, the last group to put ours In at 141! I thought once we reached 124 I was dreaming, but we kept going to 141!

Reversibility!

This term for Maths we did reversibility. We learned about how reversibility makes math questions mush easier for us to work out.  At first I found it a bit tricky and hard to understand. But after going through lots of sessions on it, I picked it up and and now I use reversibility to work out lots of my equations.

Hello Haiku!

This week for writing, on Tuesday, we wrote haiku's. They are a poem that have five syllables on the first line, seven on the next and five on the last. Here is an example,
An ocean voyage,
As waves break over the bow
The sea welcomes me
A Haiku does not have to rhyme, it just has to have the right amount of syllables. My friend Dakota and I made three Haiku's:
The dog barked at me
I then jumped and screamed so loud

Neighbours came quickly

Life is just awesome
I am always having fun
Even when I’m Numb

Sun sun sun sun sun,
It is so much fun fun fun
Even when it’s done

I hope you like them!

Have you ever written or read a Haiku? If so, Please comment and tell me!

My awesome first day of term!

On 14.10.2019, It was the first day of term 4, and it was a really good day! First, for Gospel reflection, we did the story being thankful.I think this Gospel was my best reflection this year.
This is my Reflection
Next we had morning tea, and me and my friends climbed a tree and talked. After morining tea was the best part! We sat down in the middle space and Steve told us how when he was little, If he was late to school or talked in class, he would go to detention. If he missed detention, he would have the punishement of having the strap or the cane the next morning. For the strap, he would have to stand against a wall with your hand out and your elbow against a wall, then when they strap you, if you try moving your arm away you will bang your arm into the wall. The cane you had to put your head under a desk and the teacher would get the cane and wack you so that there was a mark there fo the rest of the week, but if you tried moving before you got whacked, you would bang your head on the desk.

They rest of the afternoon was filled with fun writing and reading, and more on our PBL this term, NZ past, and at the end of the day, we had prayers and went home with happy smiles on our faces.
What was the best day of your life?

Children should be seen and not heard

On the 29th of October 2019, Tumu hub went on a school trip to Ferry mead. We first got told the rules:backs straight, shoes kept in good condition, ladies before gentlemen, and children should be seen and not heard. We then separated into groups of boys and girls to get changed into the outfits we were to wear all day. The girls wore a dress with an apron over the top, and a white frolicky hemmed hat on our heads. We met in the Lodge hall and saw that the boys wear wearing a grey long sleeved shirt with grey knickerbockers, and a hat that sort of looked like a train drivers hat. The first group went for morning tea then we played a game of its in the bag. After the game we went to have our morning tea. For morning tea we had cheerios, laming tones, pineapple lumps, pineapple and cheese on a  stick, and animal biscuits. Next we split into our small groups with about 10 people in it and went around in our rotations. My groups first rotation was the Movies. It was a little cinema with a projector and old bouncy seats. The movie we watched was 15 minutes and about a Dad who tried and failed to bake a cake, but when his daughter got home she called her friends and they all came over to help make some delicous foods to help him for the party.
Our next rotation was the school. We went into the building and first got told how to use your ink pen. Then he gave us a sheet to do. We had to write our name, and go over three sentences, I finished first, then Molly after me. Our teacher said to go out into the playground, when really there was no play ground. It was a small field with a few trees and a bench. I sat on the seat and watched Molly climb a tree, then the others started coming out. Our next rotation was supposed to be lunch, but we had been so quick we had spare time. So we went and looked around in some of the houses. There was one small cottage and a church. We firstly went inside the cottage and had a look at how they didn't have a proper toilet, instead a small pot under the bed, and living room was tiny too. We went out the back and saw the washing hagning up on the line, and there was buckets with these boards used to wash clothes on, and we all had a go at washing the clothes. Next we went for lunch. I had sandwiches, grapes, biscuits, and a bag of chips.
After lunch we went and looked in some of the other houses and the church again, and Molly, Dakota, Grandma (who was a parent helper), and I went into the print shop where a man showed us how to make notebooks. We came out of the print shop and saw that the tram that was right in front of us was now gone, we thought the rest of our group had left on it without us. But then we saw that our group was in the lodge hall getting told about how we were going to get changed before the tram ride. We went back round to the train station where we got changed at the beggining. I got out of my clothes, then went round to the grass like I was told. We had some time to play while the other tram ride finished. After about five minutes, the tram arrived. It had one half of the hub in it, and the other, which is me, will be in next. Out they come, and in we go. The tram starts, we drive through some buildings, and then, out into the open. I can see the mountain, with its beautiful green grass and its beautiful pretty houses. We went past a lake and back round to the start. It was so cool! And that is my awesome trip at Ferrymead!

Have you ever been to Ferrymead?
